Anyone who has ever been caught in a sudden harsh downpour knows that you need umbrella to stay dry at least until you reach the next building. Some people simply use newspapers over their head at least keep most of their head not soaked. But there is another elegant way to do that.

Eco Brolly is a new pocket umbrella from designer Shiu Yuk Yuen and uses newspapers or any fabric you may find as your umbrella canopy. When folded, the umbrella frame is pretty small because it has no canopy. It sized merely 8 cm long and 2 cm diameter. When you need it just unscrew the top piece, secure the paper and screw the lid back on.

The user could use almost any material they want. The nice thing from this umbrella is it’s canopy disposablility so you can simply throws the soaked wet canopy when entering a building or your car instead of carrying a wet umbrella. It’s a very clever idea.
