Before Google dominated web search, we used to try various engines to find new sites. Yahoo, Ask, Microsoft and others provided their own results and, at the time, browser add-ons would enable you to show the results from various engines within different window panes in your web browser.
These days we stick with Google. Problem is that this also means that everyone else relies on the one search engine, thus the people with expertise tend to get their results at the top of the list. If you search for generic terms, the results will be from major companies, retailers and so on.
One answer is to pioneer an alternative search engine and see how the results match up against your regular search destination.
Despite developing Internet Explorer, Microsoft has released an add-on for Firefox that enables you to find search results from using the Microsoft Live engine. This will enable localised results, so UK users can see UK-specific websites.
This is an official add-on from Microsoft. You need to agree on the terms and conditions before install. The ‘download’ here links to the terms page.
Verdict
Simple add-on for Firefox that enables you to use and view search results from the Microsoft Live engine
