MAME is abbreviation of Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator. MAME will reproduce the game on PC. At the moment MAME can emulate more than 3000 classic games and totally 5400 games. Those games come from 3 decades (‘70s, ‘80s as well as ‘90s). Some of the current games are also available.
MAME will use the ROM images that dumped from the original circuit-board ROM chips. So MAME functions as the hardware, replaces the original CPUs and chips. So these games are not the simulations only, they are actual and original games.
So maybe you are questioned what is MAME’s vision with that all. MAME prevents those vintage games being forgotten or lost by time. So the MAME programmers have done their good jobs in documenting the hardware and its works. The interesting side effect is being able to play those games.
