The Battle of Cheap Notebook PCs

Cheap Notebook PC users are potential buyer and a fast growing market for low-price, no-frills notebook computers has pulled the world’s top PC firms attention to jump into highly competitive market. Low-cost notebook computers priced for less than $500 could become a significant market segment, perhaps reaching sales of 5 million units this year.


Asustek is the market leader for low-cost notebook at the moment by dropping the price of its Eee PC 700 series, which start at about $300 in the United States. The new features on Asus EeePC 900 series has created even higher demand than it’s predecessor which appeal to people who use it primarily to surf the Internet and for simple functions such as creating documents and spreadsheets. Eee PC 900 models are equipped with wireless capability, speakers, a microphone and a high-resolution screen will attract middle class notebook user as well.

Hewlett-Packard, the world’s top-selling computer brand has jump into low-priced notebook market battle by releasing new mini notebook HP 2133 Mini-Note PC which priced starts at $499. HP claimed that HP 2133 Mini-Note PC was designed to adopt multiple features to boost productivity and improve the overall mobile experience. High performance features such as a large 8.9-inch diagonal WXGA display, user-friendly full keyboard (QWERTY) and Wi-Fi Certified WLAN have been integrated to improve its appealing.

MEDION also releasing their low-cost notebook the MEDION Akoya Mini 10″. Medion claimed that Akoya Mini 10″ is equipped with powerful processor last generation with very low power consumption, a stable OS, hard disk of 80 GB and a memory of 1 GB. Akoya Mini 10″ ultra-ultra portable and cheap notebook includes a webcam with microphone and a wireless Wi-Fi. The MEDION Akoya Mini will be sold only 399 €… It has great potential to delight all mobile users seeking a comprehensive solution mobile, efficient and ultra-cheap notebook!

Dell, the world’s second-largest computer company by sales, has unveiled their plan to join low-cost notebook pc battle by contracted with at least one Taiwanese manufacturer to build a line of notebook computers that will retail this year in developing markets and will cost less than $500.

High competition between large PC makers to release low-cost notebook would appeal to broader type of mobile computer users and most people will be satisfied by having more notebook model to choose within the low-price range.
